“Ancient Friends”: John & Hannah Bowne in Their Own Words

A TALK AND SLIDESHOW WITH HOUSE TOUR

Join us at the historic 1661 Bowne House, where archivist Charlotte Jackson will share the story of 17th-century immigrants John and Hannah Bowne through letters, diaries, and early Quaker records. Learn about their conversion to a radical new Christian sect called the Society of Friends, their remarkable marriage, and their struggle for religious liberty in the face of intolerance. The voices of these influential early Flushing settlers leap off the pages of their three-and-a-half-century old records, preserved by generations of their descendants in the family home.
